January's Viewing Group choice is Milk, directed by Gus van Sant. Brilliantly directed, wonderfully cast and an unforgetable true story with impeccable screenplay.

Gus van Sant directs this powerful and inspiring political biopic telling the story of California’s first openly gay elected public official, Harvey Milk. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum.

From senior citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978, a hero for all. His life changed history, and his courage changed lives.

Sean Penn won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the New Yorker who became known as a gay rights activist after moving to San Francisco in the early 1970s. After two failed attempts to become elected to San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, Milk finally made it onto the board in 1977 – but only served for a matter of months before he and the city’s mayor George Moscone (Victor Garber) were shot to death by right-wing rival Dan White (Josh Brolin).

With a powerhouse performance in the leading role, Sean Penn (Mystic River) and supporting cast Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) and James Franco (Spider-Man).

December's viewing group choice has Christmas present written all over it....'James May's Amazing Brain Trainer' - an interactive DVD for all the family!

This month’s Viewing Group choice is a little different! Rather than a block buster or feature film, we have chosen something very canny: James May’s Amazing Brain Trainer. This fantastic interactive DVD would be a perfect Christmas present for all the family.

This is what James May has to say about it!:

“This DVD has been designed for you and your family to enjoy. But not only to enjoy. The whole point of this programme – the real reason I’m here…is to make you cleverer.

The theory is really very simple, the more you train your brain the fitter it will become. Think of me as a kind of training instructor, for your noggin.

The good news about this type of work out is that I don’t have to don spandex shorts and a toweling head band. Test your memory, numeracy and literacy skills, as well as logic, spatial awareness and other impressive brain type sounding things!”

This DVD also includes a fully verified nationally calibrated IQ test.

Let us know what you think by commenting below.
