Choose a title!

  1. Do you need to assess, compare, analyse, contrast or criticise?
  2. Address the question but be selective in the information you include.

Gather information!

  1. Do some background reading, then go back and make notes.
  2. To avoid plagiarism make sure you reference thoroughly and correctly.

Write a great essay!

  1. Find out who thinks what and then decide what you think.
  2. Show evidence of having read widely; reference frequently and include the occasional quote.
  3. Start: with an introduction. Outline key issues and the arguments you are going to make.essay2
  4. Middle: should be analytical, well structured and balanced.
  5. End: with a conclusion. Reiterate the main points you’ve raised and draw your own conclusions.

Remember… style matters!

  1. Write objectively using your own words and in your own style, not those of the authors you have read.
  2. Justify any claims you make by linking them to your key arguments.
  3. Check, check and check again! Avoid making spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
